Program a MAX remote

Applies to 890MAX, 893MAX, and 895MAX. You need a working opener light bulb — it is the programming indicator.

Steps

  1. Press the Program button on the remote until its LED turns on (programming mode).
  2. Press and release the Learn button on the opener. The learn LED lights. You usually have about 30 seconds.
  3. Press and release the remote button you want to use.
  4. Watch for the opener light bulb to blink. If it does not, wait for the remote LED to go solid, then slowly press/release the same remote button again until the bulb blinks. Do not press after it blinks.
  5. To exit programming mode, press any remote button except the one you just programmed.
  6. Test from a few car lengths away. Additional buttons can be programmed to other openers, gates, or compatible accessories (up to three devices).

Manual diagrams show green or red/orange, purple, and yellow learn buttons as the common residential targets for MAX remotes.
